My 'barely there' makeup routine in few easy steps!

Yeah, that's SolaDunn - the face behind the blog (with the rabbit teeth, lol). Okay, so i might be a lover of edge however when it comes to make up, i like to tone it down a little bit and that is why i look on to gorgeous black women like Megan Good, Keri Washington and Gabrielle Union for inspiration. They have managed to overtime keep up a mild, understated yet sophisticated look with their faces. Ofcos we can't deny the fact that makeup is a very essential part of our everyday lives, especially we women. Thing is though - i feel every woman should be able to master the barely there makeup. Its is soft, sweet and super easy - the essence of it is to have a lot on without necessarily being dramatic ( you know what i mean).

It could be worn to pretty much any and everywhere - work, religious houses, events and so on. Therefore i've decided to share my routine with you my amazing blog visitor hoping you'd love and probably get to try. I hope it works for you, its just a few steps and you're done.

1. Moisturize your face (very important) - Moisturizers are a must have for every woman and is to be used day and night (especially day). They are not just to protect your skin from the harsh weather (trust me especially here in Nigeria), but also from organic ingredients that comes with makeup. In my case, i also use it to control the amount of oil that comes out of my face (i have a very oily face) lol!

2. Conceal - i don't joke with my concealer. It's my most essential makeup item. I can never leave my house without it ( i NEVER WILL, lol). Personally, i don't use foundations because they sort of make my face heavy so i conceal every dark spots. Should i let you in one a secret ladies? you have no idea what a concealer does to your under eye. It is the biggest secret for all Hollywood celebrities on the best way to make your eyes pop.

3. Mineralized powder - Yup, for the best finishing, go for a 'MINERALIZED' powder. They are super soft and light on your face. Another secret is that, i don't use a puff but rather an application brush - it helps the powder to spread better.

4. Brows and Mascara - Lightly fill in your brows (please tweeze) with a brown pencil. NEVER use black. Also apply just two coats of mascara, that should do. I'd be writing a post on getting the perfect brows very soon. If you got yours professionally tattooed, well its the same process. For a little drama, do a catty liner.

5. Go easy on the Lips - Go for nude lipsticks like Gabrielle, Megan and Keri or in my case - add a little pop of color. I loooove my soft pink and orange lipsticks (up). For more on the orange lipstick, click  here.

and.....dahzall! In less than 5 minutes, you're done and dusted. Hope you enjoyed and you'll get to try. Please let me have your feedbacks too.

Love,
SolaDunn.

  6. I don't agree wif the NEVER use black part of the tips. I'm dark and I prefer black, I tried brown once and it didn't look nice @ all, since then stuck 2 my black. Brown is not 4 every1 ma'am and lol @ religious homes.

    1. Hello! While the techniques and products that works for every individual differ, it is highly recommended that you moisturize your face before applying makeup. It not just controls the amount of oil your face produces, it also protects (sun), softens and sets your face. I'll write a post soon on the importance of moisturizing, am sure you'll find that more comprehensive. xoxo

    2. Thanks anon! I guess comments like that are just inevitable. On the concealer, Just a few coats will do. Apply only on the affected areas (dark spots) in a patting motion and you should be fine. Not to worry, i'll be writing on pefecting each stage very soon. *kisses* xoxo

    1. Hello Precy, thing is, the product that will work for the both of us may differ. I highly suggest you visit a makeup store and have them test their products on you - by that, you'll be sure to make the best selection. I know we have quite a lot of them in Lagos (if you reside here). MAC products are quite nice (am aware they recently opened at the palms) however, i use a LANCOME concealer. Hope this helps and please let me have a feedback. xoxo
