Consider this while picking out a dress!

Dresses, dresses, dresses!!! Don't you just love them now! Dresses are the perfect apparel to accentuate every woman femininity! Regardless of your age, stature and what not.....this one piece apparel is always a go-to unfortunately there are a lot of mistakes ladies make while buying dresses and this in turn makes the outfit look very unflattering on them. Looking to get the perfect, well pulled together look that exudes the maximum intended glamour and sophistication in dresses? Keep these factors in mind;

1. Age -  Even tho am all for dressing for your body and not age necessarily, there has to be a balance. No one wants to see a 60year old woman wear a cutout bodycon dress regardless of how banging your bod is. Have a look these amazing women below and observe a sequence. Gabby Douglas (17), Angela Simmons (26), Kelly Rowland (32), Jada Pinket Smith (41), Oprah (59) and Diana Ross (69).

2. Body/Stature - This is very important. If not the most important factor to consider. If you're busty don't wear high necks, if you're inverted triangle do not wear wide shoulders, if you're pear shaped, stay off pleats, if you're rectangle shaped stay off straight cuts and so on. Choose dresses that accentuates your beautiful features and at the same time minimizes your imperfections. I've extensively written on all body types, you can read my article on them again here - pear, rectangle, busty, hourglass and diamond/round. See how unflattering these dresses look on Tiwa and Ebube (am sure you've seen these gorgeous women in way better dresses right)

3. Event - is it a Cocktail? Premiere? Date? Launch? Etc. You just don't pickup a barbie doll dress and wear to a premiere neither is it proper to wear a floor length dress to launch with your girls or man. Your dresses must be event appropriate. If you're going for a cocktail, you pick out a colorful fun dress, if its a premiere or dinner, you pick out more classy, elegant and sophisticated dresses, and so on.

4. Complexion - as funny as it may sound, a wrong color of dress may ruin your entire look. If you are pale skinned like Monalisa, ofcos you should avoid pale/pastel colors like baby pink and so on. Also for a really dark girl like myself, I tend to be very careful with some overly bright colors that contrasts with my skin tone - for example, neon shades.

5. Accessories - for instance, if you're picking out a dress with lots of embellishments, you should go demure with accessories or in my case as i love, none atall. If you're picking out a simple dress, then you can go all out with bold blings and statement accessories. No accessories on Beyonce in the first pic, bold statement necklace in the other.

6. Budget - Always remember to cut your cloth according to your size. The fact that you bought a dress for millions of Naira doesn't guarantee that it will look better on you than someone that got hers for a couple of thousands. Don't get me wrong, am all for investing in fashion pieces (I prefer to have a few that is worth it than stack up a bunch that is just bluahhh). Splurge on interesting pieces but do not rob a bank. *winks* Solange in the first pic wearing H & M and in the second, Mary Katrantzou, you be the judge of the better look!

In addition to this, there are some other secondary factors such as hair, shoes, eyes, makeup and even what your partner will be wearing that may come into consideration but the most important ones are what I've listed above.

I hope you enjoyed! I love you for reading....
